THE AFFAIR!!!!

OMG HOW HAS IT TAKEN ME THIS LONG TO FIND THIS GEM?!?!?!  I am WAY late to this party but I am OBSESSED.  Obsessed like I might have watched 4 episodes in a row yesterday.....and I am officially in love with Ruth Wilson.

I am a documentary addict!!  One of my favorite things to do on a rainy or cold (hello, winter!) weekend day is to binge watch docs on netflix.  Seriously, I can watch like 4 or 5 at a time.   I like all kinds - from the obscure and quirky to the scandalous to the supernatural and everything in between!

Here are some of my faves:

The House I Live In

Meet The Fokkens

Gideon's Army

Dark Girls

Blackfish

MissRepresentation

Crips and Bloods: Made In America

Client 9 - The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer

Grey Gardens

How To Die in Oregon

....and about a million others!!  I'm also dying to see 'The Armstrong Lie', which I've heard is really great.

The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz

The Four Agreements is a wonderful book I was introduced to a few months ago which outlines four main principles to live by for a happier, more harmonious and peaceful life.   It's a book filled with 'aha!' moments and messages of wisdom and personal freedom passed down for thousands of years by the ancient Toltec Empire of southern Latin America.   I must say reading the book is easier than implementing the agreements in to your every day life, HOWEVER, in the few months since I have read this book having these principles as a guidepost has absolutely changed my life.  For me, the second agreement in particular has had the most profound effect.

The Four Agreements:

1.  Be Impeccable With Your Word.

Speak with integrity.  Say only what you mean.  Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others.  Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2.  Don't Take Anything Personally.

Nothing others do is because of you.  What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream.  When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

3. Don't Make Assumptions.

Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want.  Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama.  With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4.  Always Do Your Best.

Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick.  Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgement, self-abuse and regret.

OWN - The Oprah Winfrey Network

Yes, I am one of the twenty people who watch the Oprah Winfrey Network.  Yes, it's hard to find - I think it's channel 180 something in New Jersey.

BUT, she has some really great programming!  My favorite is Super Soul Sundays.  It starts at 11am every Sunday and is basically an hour of inspiring, thought provoking and awakening interviews with thought leaders, writers, spiritual leaders, filmmakers and others.

Some past guests include Deepak Chopra (one of my personal faves), Marianne Williamson, Eckhart Tolle and Elie Wiesel.   I always learn something and its a fun way to spend an hour on a Sunday morning - feeding your soul!

Oprah haters (hi mom!).....I don't want to hear it.

DIY BEAUTY PRODUCTS!

I think we have all been becoming more aware of some of the nasty toxic ingredients in the beauty products we use every day - from shampoo to toothpaste to makeup and face wash.  I have been searching recently for simpler, cleaner alternatives to some of these products  - enter The Oil Cleansing Method!

This is a make at home, all-natural alternative to your daily cleanser that will completely remove all dirt and makeup, leave your skin moisturized, smooth and GLOWING!  It's also customizable and inexpensive.   It is a mixture of olive oil (yes, the olive oil you cook with), castor oil (you may not have this at home, I got mine at a healthfood store) and essential oils (these are optional, so if you have some you like, add them!).   I have combination skin so I use equal parts olive oil and castor oil.  The castor oil removes oil, dirt, blackheads and makeup and the olive oil keeps your skin moisturized.  The castor oil can be very drying, so if you have dry skin, you should use more olive oil than castor oil, and vice versa for oily skin.   Added bonus: it doesnt hurt when it gets in your eyes so you can really remove all of your eye make-up and not risk raccoon eyes in the morning.

Here's what you need:

Olive Oil

Castor Oil

Essential Oils (these are optional - I like tea tree oil and lavender)

Empty Bottle

Washcloth (If you wear makeup, i recommend a navy or black washcloth...otherwise it's going to have makeup all over it)

Here's what to do:

Mix up the appropriate amounts of olive oil and castor oil (depending on your skin type) with essential oils (just a few drops each) in empty bottle.

Apply cleanser to dry face and neck

Run washcloth under hot water and apply to face and neck for 30 seconds (this activates the castor oil and is kind of like a mini-facial)

Using washcloth wipe off excess cleanser

Depending on your skintype and preference, you may not even need a moisturizer after cleansing, as the olive oil will leave your skin moisturized and glowing.  Enjoy!

THE BIG THINK   www.bigthink.com

This is one of my FAVORITE websites - and a great way to spend time online without feeling like a complete waste of space and brainpower.    It is a compliation of blogs, articles and videos posted by thought leaders, experts, politicians, psychologists, professors and more basically talking about what they know and what they've learned.  My favorites are the videos...because, let's be honest it's just more fun than reading a long article, especially on the computer.  Here's a link to some interviews done with with one of my favorite politicians, the late Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy.
